The incredible Rolling Shawn!

So Shawn has been rolling since he was 2 weeks old. Recently, however, he's gotten up on his hands and knees, threatening to crawl! He took two "steps" yesterday on his hands and knees. So here's some pictures. The bottom one is him on his elbows and knees!

Say yes to No

I have been researching this, and I agree with what they're saying. Teaching our kids to "say no to themselves" or the basic principles of delayed gratification will go a long way. And that's what this Doctors book is about. I'm going to see if the Library has it before I buy it, but his blog and website are great. Take a look.

Great Goiter Batman!

So, I've noticed my kneck getting thicker this year. When I went into my physical I mentioned it to my doctor. He took a blood pannel and confirmed that my thyroid is going Hyper. So, he sent me to ultrasound and low and behold I have multiple little growths called nodules on my thyroid. At this point, because I'm producing too much he wants to monitor me every 2 months to make sure it doesn't get worse. If I start to feel effects or my kneck get's even bigger I'll be treated with Thyroid blockers, if that doesn't work I'll have to think about having the nodes removed, or have radiation therapy for it (I don't want this as it will mean the end of my expanding family). But these are extremes, sometimes it acts up after a pregnancy and it may actually go away! (I sure hope so!) So Holy Goiter's Batman! If I'm moody, you know why!

Husband Tag!

Husband Tagged

I got husband tagged. Here's how it works: I will answer questions about Mark. Everyone who reads this is tagged and you do the same thing on their own blog and so on and so forth.
*What is your husband's name? Mark
*What is your pet name for him? Sweetie, Dad
*How long have you guys been married? 8 Years in March!
*How long did you date? Nov 1, 2000 was our first Date, we were engaged by Christmas and Married March 28, 2008. (It was going to be May, but the Army was going to deploy me!)
*Who is taller? Mark
*Who can sing the best? Mark, definitely
*What's his biggest flaw? He doesn't know how great he is!
*Who is smarter? Definitely Mark, though he doesn't believe it.
*Who pays the bills? I do, but with his money....hehe.
*Who does the laundry? I wash, he folds.
*Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? Mark
*Who mows the lawn? We both do. Depending on whose back feels better.
*Who cooks dinner? I do, but he does the dishes without complaint (ain't he great!)
*Who is the first to admit when they're wrong? MARK!! I am stubborn.
*Who kissed who first? He stole a kiss first. Caught me completely off guard, not that I'm complaining.
*Who wears the pants? Huh? Pants? He prefers Jeans. I may think I do, but ultimately, if he puts his foot down, I don't stomp on it. We generally each wear one leg.

relay marathon! Whose in??!!

So, I'm thinking about organizing a hood to coast run or portland to coast walking team for 2010 in August. Whose with me!!?? I've recruited me and my mom so far with hopes for Jodi, Lindsay and whoever else wants to join! Mary? You in? I believe there are teams of 12 for the walkers, I'm not sure about runners yet. You'd walk 5-6 miles twice during the course of the race between Portland, Oregon and Seaside, Oregon, ending on the beach and a lot of fun. Here the link for the walk... http://www.hoodtocoast.com/index_ptc.php?i=ptc On the top you will find the link to the hood to coast. It's the largest relay in the world! We'll have to sign up a year in advance, so I need to know....WHOSE WITH ME!! And would you rather run or walk!

Baby Food!

So, Shawn is now old enough he is eating baby food. This is good, I just wasn't satisfying him anymore. I decided that since I'm doing cloth diapers why not go completly green and make his baby food too. How hard can it be?? EASY PEASY! I love it! And I know exactly what he's getting!! This week we roasted a butternut squash in the oven dry (no salt/butter, etc) and threw it in my blender and blended it to a fine puree, added a little water/breastmilk, and viola! he loves it! And it cost me nothing since I grew the squash last summer! yeah! I think we'll do avacado's next, a little more pricy but full of good fats. Happy eating!

Chunk!

Shawn had his 4 month appointment this week. He did well! His weight is in the 95th percentile at 16 pounds 9 oz ( a pound less then we thought). This means he is slowing down, the first 2 months he gained a whopping 4.5 pounds, these last 2 months he only gained 2. He is rather short though. He is only 25 inches long, that puts him in the 40th percentile. He also has started cereal. The doctor recommended we start after 13 pounds. He loves it, and I can't shovel it fast enough (hence the 16 pounds!) His head is of course large as well. He is blowing raspberries and saying Da! His parlor tricks include rolling over both ways and trying to sit up on his own. The doctor says "He thinks he's 6 months old!" So, overall good job Shawn. Let's hope he gets taller before he gets wider!!!

My promise...no more resolutions

I hate new years resolutions. I always fail and then proceed to beat myself up over it. It's an unhealthy cycle. So this year I resolve not to make anymore resolutions...wait...oh well.

2008: I had a beautiful boy! What a great year, I also gained 15 pounds, what a sad year. I don't feel good with all that weight, and I really want to feel good, so I'm not joining weight watchers. I'm not going to buy diet pills. I'm not going to price out lipo suction. And I'm not going to look at myself and say hopeless. I am, however, going to make the decision that I am more important, how I feel is more important, then that piece of cake, or that cookie, or that hamburger or steak. I am more important than my taste buds. Plus, I don't want to have to buy bigger clothes, they're expensive. Do you think I'll make it? I'm posting a poll for you to vote in, your vote in anonymous. So if you vote "yeah right, dream again...." I won't know it's you. I guess my non-resolution is to be happy this year. To enjoy life, and love myself. That, I decided, is the most important thing.

My kids, when asked about a goal for the year said, "I don't know, maybe we can try to clean our rooms..." Fine with me! They are doing well, Marky is picking up words left and right. Haley is doing better with her letters, when she gets them they stick, it just takes a while to get them, writ ting is another battle. She is left handed and fighting it when we try to help her write she uses her right hand. Shawn is starting to want to sit up by himself, he also is trying imitations he can blow raspberries when you do and tries to say Hi and Da.

Mark and I start school this week, this is his last semester--YEAHH!--- until he decides it's time for a masters. I am almost halfway through an associates. When my kids are all in school I'll go full time for a BS. (bachelors of Science Dad... ;) ).

Our driveway is done, YEAH! I can walk out and get into my van without stepping in any mud or dirt! Unfortunately now we have to redo the gutters on the back and the front porch now that the cap is larger then it was.

This is our year end in review, kind of long, sorry! We loved seeing everyone at Christmas and hope this year we can see you again!

Love,

ER, Mark, Haley, Shawn and Marky
